N.Z. SCIENCE STUDENTS VISIT LABORATIES Although their stay is to be of only three months, the party of science students visiting the U.S.A. and Canada were able shortly after their arrival to inspect the modern esearch laboratories and techniques associated with petroleum products. As a result of arrangements made in New Zealand by the Atlantic Union Oil Company, they were met on -their arrival in New York by officials of the parent company, and taken on a nersonally conducted tour of the Bayway refinery and the research laboratories at Linden, New Jersey. The party comprised Misses Joy Osborn, Pamela Wilton, Christine Spencer, Barbara Gibbons and Messrs. James Land and , John Relling. After being met at their hotel, the students were taken in special cars to'the laboratories, where the work was explained by the offlcer in charge, Dr. Holt. two laboratory technicians. Miss Bell and Miss Fisher, accomnanied the party on the' tour .of insnection to demonstrate the varied processes tand techniques. " Among ' the points inspected were the engine test laboratories. the aviation fuel test stands, the "bug" farm and a tour of the refinery yard and installations. Lunch was served in the refinery cafetaria, and later in the afternoon all the party were presented with mementoes of their visit. Following the visit the party was '•he guests of the comoany at -tea and cocktails at the famous Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, where they were interviewed by no fewer than 10 Press reporters and photographers. Durifig the social a warm welcome was extended by an official of Lhe company, who recalled manv incidents during his visits to New Zealand in connection with the Atlantic Union Oil Company, and nresented each of the partv with an inscribed^copy. of the book "The Future of Iridustrial Research." The party is expected to sail again fo'r New Zealand on March 20 from San Francisco.
