FILM SOCIETY TO PURCHASE PROJECTOR

FIRST OFFICERS ELECTED The fleGisipn to purchase a 16 m.m. film projector was reached last night ,at a' meeting of the Levin Film Society, held in St. Mary's Hall. The projector was offered to the society for £210 and a demonstration was given during the meeting. After the inaugural meeting last4 November the interim committee approached all those who had indiGated their interest in the society ifbr fuuds towardg the purchase of a projector. As a result of this a substantial sum of money was offered, some bv way of gifts i*>ut mostly as interest-free lqans to th'e society. An appeal was again mahe last night for additional contributions for the projector, which will be purehased as soon as the sum required is available. The society will then commenee operations 'mmediatelv.

The chairman, Mr. J. Todd, informed the meeting that films would be available free of charge from several different sources, mainly the New Zealand National Film Library, the American Legation and the Canadian Legation. The film screened. last 'night was entitled "Attack — Battle for New Britain," and it dealt with the snning and carryinp' out of the attack on New- Britain by the American armed forces. The film was vivid in every detail and held Mie interest of the audience throughout its duration, which was 58 minutes. The society is defined as an assoeiation of people who are interested in films as education, art and entertainment, and any person may- become a member on application to the secretary, Mrs. C. NiGhol. This constitution and rules were formally adopted at last night's meeting. Fellowing this the election of officers took place and resulted as follcws: — President: Mr. J. Todd; secretary-treasurer: Mrs. C. Nichol; executive committee: MSSdames J. Biack, N. Byrne and C. Nichol. Miss Davie and Messrs. J. Todd, J. Tomlinson, L. Lannie and A. B. Colcs.

The subscrintion was fixed at 15s for adults and 7s 6d for juniors. the latter being pupils of Horowhenua College or primary schools, and all those who have left sehool and are under 17 years of age.
