LEVIN GOLF CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING LARGELY ATTENDEP The annual general meeting pf the Levin Golf Club was held recently, the president, Mr. H. Bull, occupying the chair. ' Forty-one mejnbers were present and there were apologies from ten others. Annual xteport The president submitted his annual report, which read as fqliows: "It is with pleasure that I present the report for the 19461947 season, which incidently can be regarded as one of the mqst successful in the club's history. The membership has been a record one numerically, the totals being: Men 88, ladies 57, a total of 145. As a result subscriptions have resulted ,in the record figure of approximately £400.
"Throughout the season. it was the committee's endeavour to afford better playing facilities and as a result extra expenditure was involved in keeping the fairways cut.by the full use whenever possible of the triplex mower. The season was a varied mixture pf borh s;ood and bad from the weather angle, the latter three months in i particular being very wet and mak-r ing playing conditions somewhat unpleasant owing to the water seepage covering a large nart of the course. I consider that although ; sheep grazing may have its disad- , vantages the stony nature of the course, combined with the wet playing conditjons experienced durl ing winter play, make both sheep grazing and mower cutting of the course eenerallv essential.
"Full club competitjons and the senior and junior championship matches were resumed all games being played to scheduled times; also home and away games with various district clubs were played, together with a most -enjoyable match with the Pukerua Bay Cluo, the first game for niany years with a Wellington metropolitan club. It is hoped that the latter match will be a forerunner of many similar •games between local and other district clubs. "Although the expenditure may have been heavy,- the year's warking has shown a profit of £65 18s lld. which may be considered a most •.atisfactory one. "In conclusion may I tender my sincere thanks to all members for uheir helpful co-operation throughout the past season and.I hope that the same spirit will be shown to the incoming president and his committee. To my past committee my sincere thanks are due for this splendid team work and harmonfous working throughout, rendering my task a relativelv easy one." Other Business The election of officers then took place and resulted as follows: — President: Mr. R. A. Frederikson; vice-president: Mr. C. Wallace; club captain: Mr. Franklin; secretary: Mr. J. E. Fullafton; treasurer: Mr. W. S. Ogier; committee: Messrs. H. Foley, H. D. Richards. C. Sherwood, C. King and H. Black; auditor: Mr. E. S. Crisp. Six members intimated their intention of resigning and these -esignUtions were accepted with regret. It was moved by Mr. Bull that the subscriptions be the same as last year and that a levy be made in the event of additional monies being required. At the conclusion of the meeting the president, Mr. R. A. Frederikson, paid & tribute to the work "f the retiring president and committee during the season just xassed, and expressed the Lope hat the ineomine- committee would carry on th^ good work.
