Dahlia Show Popular There was a iarge gathering of interested people present at the Druids' Hall yesterday afternoon to attend the opening of the dahlia show, wnich was being eondiacted by the local branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers. Tfiere were many beautiful enirie* on exhibition and the standard of the blooms was very high. A report of prize-winnings will be published later. Plunket Carnival A further progress report in the voting in the Plunket Society's baby carnival was announced by the secretary, Mrs. J. Creagh; yesterday. The six leading babies are now: No. 5 (David Bateman; 1, No. 17 (Dawn Easton) 2, No. 24 (Stuart McDonald) 3, No. 11 (Wendy Wishart) 4, No. 4 (Helen Tremewan) 5, and No. 6 (Bruce Small) 6. A further report will be published on Wednesaa^ . Marching Activity The two local marching teams have been spending much time in preparing for the forthcoming Wellington provincial marching championships. They have mastered the competition .march and are now concentrating on improvements m their standard of marching. A combined display is also being pracciced for the local horse soorts next Saturday. In this display both teams will work together and the contrast and colours of their uniforms will make the display most effective. Sports Club Active Members of 'the Shannon Sports Club will be very active between now and next Saturday in completing preparations for their eleventh annual meeting. A working oe will be held at the grounds, Engle's Road, on Sundayf commencing at 10 a.m. All members who can come along and give assistance are requested to do so as there will be much to do in connection with the erection of hurdles and generally getting the ground^ in order. The secretary, Mr. R. Vinsen, has advised that there is considerable outside interest in the function and a large field of competitors is expected in both the horse events and the highland dancing.
