COMPULSORY REGISTRATION OF MASTER BUILDERS
AUCKLAND, Feb. 28. j Compulsory registration by Act of I Parliament of all Dominion master , builders is proposed by the NeW Zea- j land llasters Buiklers' Federation. It was not suggested that the building industrv through the registra- ; lion of builders should become a close , corporation. AVhat was wanted was to ' confine the erectiou of homes and bnildJ ings otlier than those built by persons 1 for themselves to men who had learned , I the trade. Tt was eontended that the registra-} tion of builders by Act of Parliament J would ensure that buildings were corI reetly built, carrying a guarantee of j etllcientiy, iucreased . usef ulness and I durabilitv. It was pro- ! posed that the New Zealand Bill should i provide for the registration of builders. j A board of five persons appointed by j the Governor-General comprising a civil 1 servant representing the Government ' and four others from persons nominated j by the New Zealand Federated Builders and Contractors Industrial Associj ation of Fmplovers and including a i nominee of the building trades work- ! jers' organisations.
