LEVIN EWE FAIR

LARGE YARDINGS AND KEEN COMPETITION One of the latgest yardings ever penned in Levin came forward for auction on Wednesday when close on 7000 ewes met with a steady demand throughout, the majority bing quitted at prices fully on a par with outside ruling rates. The yarding on a whole was quite fair, the majority of the sheep being annual drafts of local and down country 4 and 5-year-old ewes. Those with good mouths and fair bone excited ready competition from northern buyers, while the lighter boned and down in the mouth sheep were absorbed mainly by* the Shannon and Moutoa districts. The yarding of 2-ths. as a whole was disappointing, the standard being very much lower than the older sheep. One pen of well grown early shorn 2-th. ewes made 38/-. Realisations were as under :- 4-year-olds: On account A. M. Colquhoun, 150 at 29/7; on accountMrs. G. Iggulden, 128 at 27/6; on aceount R. M. D'Ath. 120 at 28/-.

4 and 5 year ewes: On account C. Adkin, 200 at 28/-; on account Walker Estate. 300 at 25/10: on account P. Shieids, 225 at 25/9; on account P. J. O'Rourke, 149 at 26/4; on account J. Corbett, 66 at 26/6. 5-year-old ewes: On account S. T. O'Rourke. 140 at 28/-; on account A. Barberry, 121 at 27/1;' on account Guy Blenkhorn, 171 at 24/3 ; on account W. M. Simcox. 160 at 24/6; on account C. Adkin. 90 at 25/i; on account R. A. Prouse, 87 at 25/-. 6-th. ewes: On account E. P. Simcox, 156 at 27/4.
