Bombshell in Ranks of Public Service

WELLINGTON; Feb. 26. Thc Public Service Commission has withclrawn its recognition ol! the New Zealand Public Service Association. The 24,000 public servants who are members of the tissociation are therefore without any official channel for representations to the Commission which has eontrol of the service. This move by the Commission has followed the decision of the executive committee of the Public Service Association to - give full sponsorship to the overtime strfke throughout the chief mental hospitals of the Dominion. • Neithqr the chairman of the Commission, Mr. R. M. Campbell, nor the generai secretary of the association, Mr. J. Turnbull, would comment on the new development, but Mr. Turnbull said that the situation would be discussed at a meeting of the association 's executive committee iiext Tuesday night. The Commission is reported to hav.e notified the Public Service Association of the decision yesterday when representatives of the association again saw the Commission about the mental hospitals dispute. The Commission then informed the officers of the association that it would not negotiafb with or reeeive representatives from the association because of its continual support of themental hospital nurses and attendauts. It is understood that the Commision also objocted to the recent direet approaeh by the association to the Prime iMinister ovcr the mental hospitals case, tlms going over the head of the ( •ommissioii.
