levin's annual meeting

Presided over by Mr. D. J. Sweetzer, the Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce held its annual general meeting on Tuesday. There was a good attendance and eight apologies were received. The chairman opened the proceedings by expressing a welcome to His Worship the Mayor and said how much the junior chamber appreciated his interest. In reply, -Mr. Burdekin said he was pleased and proud to be associated with the local junior .chamber and would help all he could'. The president then presented his annual report in which he touched briefly on the salient features of the year. He said that the chamber had laid a foimdation upon which during the coming year it would proceed with the building of a substantial junior chamber in Levin. The annual accounts were presented by the secretary, Mr. G. H. Sorenson, and showed a healthy position. The annual accounts and reports were then adopted on the motion of Mr. D. J. Sweetzer, seconded by Mr. F. D. Chainey. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — President: Mr. D. J. Sweetzer; secretary: Mr. G. H. Sorenson; board: Messrs. C. M. Wallace, E. E. Tyrrell, N. Thornley, R. A. Frederikson, C, B. Greenaway, J. E. Fullarton, J. W. Lynch, H. Foley and J. Barratt. • General business was then discussed and it> was decided, on the motion of Mr. Fullarton, seconded by Mr. Chainey, that members' subscriptions for the coming year, be £1 15s, less 10s discount if paid on or before April 30, 1947. The next business on the agenda was to eonsider the rules as submitted by the board. After considerable discussion the rules as amended were adopted and it was resolved to appoint Mr. H. B. Burdekin as honorary auditor for the coming year. The secretary advised members 'that there would be a "weekend convention in Palmerston North during the coming weekend and also that the Dominion President, Mr. P. B. Watts, would pay a visir to Levin on Tuesday, March 25. Mr. Sweetzer nominated His Worship the Mayor as the chamber's first honorary member which was ''carried by applause. He then presented Mr. Burdekin with a lapel badge, which consists of a square of silver, having an inset of brown, which is the - Levin Junior Chamber colour. and the official badge of- the Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce. This concluded the formal business and brought the meeting to a close. •
