R.S.A. TO SEND FOOD

^ Asristing British Comrades ENGLISH TOWN ADOPTED BY LEVIN BRANCH In an endeavour to help alleviate the food position in Britain, the Retumed Servicemen's Association of New Zealand have suggested to branches that food parcels be sent to the returned men in the United Kingdom. In implementing this decision there has been obtained from the British LegiOn, through the British Empire Service League, lists of 100 towns with the names of the British Legion's representative in each, and of 50(1 names and ' addresses of necessitous f amilies 'of ex-servicemen. Each of the 99 affiliated associations in New Zealand, have been allotted a town. which, in the case of Levin, is Broughton (Salford). It was left to the branches themselves to decide whether they would operate as an association through the Legion's representatives or allow individual members to make themselves responsible for sending a regular parcel to particular families in the towns allotted to them. When the matter was 'raised at last night's meeting of the Levin branch of the R.S.A., a large majority were in fa-vour. of making" it a personal gesture by each 'member adopting a family and making it his responsibility to send the parcels. Another suggestion was that a committee be appointed to supervise the buying of goods, possibly at a wholesale price, and if individual members wished to add the personal touch, they could pack their own parcels and pay "the money to the committee. It was suggested that the assistance of war brides and other women interested be sought, as they would know exactly what was required. It was agreed that meanwhile a committee comprising Messrs. L. M. Hair, J. Corbishley, R. Pickering, J. M. Foland and the Rev. A. Salmond, be set up to go fully into the matter.
