DOUBLE TAXATION AGREEMENT SOUGHT
"WELLINGTON, Eeb. 25. The Minister in charge of tlie Land aud Income Tax Department, Hon. A. 1L. Nord meyer, anuounced today that two ofiicers of Ihe taxaticn department, .Messrs G. Arnis and N. A. llowntree, had left Wellington en route to Australia to discuss double taxation problems. - Mr. Nordmeyer explained tliat wlien M r. Nash was in Canberra recently, it was arranged with Mr. Chifley, Prime Minister aud Treasurer, that two ollicers of the New Zealand Taxation Department should proceed to Canberra and have prelimiiiary discussions with ihe Gonunonwealth autliorities. "The ofiicers will not conclude any taxation agreement wliilst thev are in Canberra, ' ' said Alr. Nordmeyer, "but will formulate a basis and report to the Government on their return. It . is hopcd that lioth parties will then be in a position to proceed 011 the basis of discussions held and at a later date it is hoped to conclude an ollicial double taxation agreement between the GovM'umenls oi Australia and New Zealand. ' ' Mr. Nordmeyer also explained tliat it was likely that a double taxation agreenicjit between the Govcriunent of rnited Kingdom aud the New Zeala-ud (iovernnient would be signed by Alr. Nash wliilst. he is in London.
