CHURCH PROTEST AT ART UNIONS
WELLINGTON, Feb. 25. Tlie reported intcntion of the Govcriiment to raise funds for patriotie purposes by art uuions, brought a resolution of protcst from the Methodist Conference at its session in Wellington today. The resolution aflirmed that. the conference was confident that the employment of sncli means Avould of fcnd the conscience and alienate tln, Kymrjialliy of a large nuniber of people, particularlv those associated with tlie church, who otherwise would desirc to contributc to sucli funds and gcnerally assist in the purposes for whieli they wero intended. Rev. R. Dudlcv (Christchurch) said the country was today launchod on an orgy of gambling which Avas poisoning tlie springs of our socia) and moral life. The conference decided to usk tlie tnf ercliurcli couneil on public affairs to arrange a deputatiou of protest to tho Govcrnment.
