MAGISTRATE'S COURT
MONTHLY SITTING IN OTAKI The monthly sitting ot tlie Magistrate's Court, Otaki, was held on Thursday before Mr. A. M. | Goulding, S.M. Among the cases : heard were the following: — • Illegally on Racecourse Hohepa- Tamihana was charged ,vith being illegally on the Otaki racecourse on December 14. Constable W. Calwell stated that he had previously warned Tamihana. The magistrate took into considera-_ tion the fact that this was Tamihana's first offence and imposed a fine of £2, with 10s costs. Thomas Bowlin pleaded guilty to j a similar charge. Constable Calwell detailed the offence. Bowlin said he was not aware that he was unable to go on to a racecourse. He was about 30 miles from the Otaki racecourse and his age was 19 years. In view of his youth, the magistrate inflicted a fine of 10s, with 10s. costs. Traffic Breaches Murdock McRa^ was convicted ! and order ed to pay 10s costs for | driving without due .care and j attention. Constable Calwell told j the court that while driving near i the Pukehou Hill, 011 the main ! I highway, McRae ran over the side [of the road. but escaped uninjured. A charge of driving 4n a dangerj ous ma.nner cost Peter D'Ath £4, j with 10s costs. Inspector Davis | said he saw defendant travelling at an excessive speed, cutting across ! the road and otherwise driving in I : a dangerous manner. i For exceeding the maximum t speed limit of 40 m.p.h. exceeding the speed limit in a ( restricted area. Insoector Davis said defendant travelled up to 50 1 m.p.h. in the Otaki Borough. Charged with breaking the traffic ; '-egulations bv cutting in, Walter: Howatt was fined £3 10s, with 10s / "osts. Albert Victor Hornig, who was charged with having no warrant of fitness. said he was getting the l vehicle c^n^erned ready for thA. road. and desired to effect repairs hefor° applving for a warrant.
