COUNTESS OPIUM SELLER
The story of a 72-year-old Frehch Countess' opiuin dem in the Bois de Boulogne, was disclosed by Paris police. They announced the arrest of the Countess de Salles and .the closing of her den, which was furnished in Oriental style and linked with drug-sellers in Maiseilles / Police said that when they raided the place they founa famous writers and artists. Th'e Paris correspondent of the Exchange Telegraph Agency says the police also arrested "wellknown painter Edouard Georg, 64, a French citizen, who was born in Sydney." They also arrested' several opium traffickers from Marseilles. Further arrests are expected. It is stated that prominent society men and women and high naval omcers also frequented the den. Guests smoked opium in heavy silver pipes, lying on velvet divans with silken cushions, in the countess' luxurious apartment. It is alleged that visitors paid £200 for a pound of opium.
