CHAMPIONSHIP CYCLING

— TOMORROW S SPORTS MEETING On Saturday night the West Coast cycling championships will be conducted by the Levin Combined A.A. and C. Club on the Levin Park Domain. The programme opens at 11 a.m., when the 1000 metres 'time trial will be decided. In this event each competitor rides 1000 metres unfaced against time, the present holder being F. D. Clinton, of Wanganui, N.Z. champion. . . j At 2 p.m. the half-mile heats of the junior championship, halfmile senior championship, five milfe junior championship and one mile senior championship will be decided, together with the 500 metres sprint heats. At 8 p.m. the finals will be decided, together with a programme of handicap athletic and cycling events. The following will contest the championship events for their respective clubs:— Wanganui: F. D. Clinton, J. Laidlaw, J. Chalk, K. Stevens, H. Pidwell, A. Higgs, L. Christie and D. Cheatley. Levin: N. Parker. ' Foxton: L. King. Feilding: A. H. Allen, N. Rodgers and J . Stichbury. ^Palmerston North: G. Barnes, D. Yeates, A. Mobberiey and A. Gooksley. Marton: D. Wapp and B. Martin. This is the flrst time the championships have beeh held on~the Levin track, and the committee has worked unceasingly during the past fortnight finalising arrangements for the meeting. With fine weather looked forward to, this should be the most outstanding meeting ever conducted by the local clubrr»,d the public should not. miss setv the evening programme for it'Tiks offering the best entry of cyclists evcr to appear on this coast. At 7.30 p.m. the Horowhenua Highland Band, under Pipe-Major A. Yorston, will mareh from Oxford Street to the domain, where they will render a short programme before the opening of the evening session.
