CONDITIONS AT FOXTON BEACH

SURVEY TO BE MADE The necessity for the surveys at Foxton Beach being completed was stressed by a number of members1 of the Foxton Harbour Board at its meeting in Palmerston North on Wednesday. It was considered that the position at the moment was not very satisfactory. The matter of the survey was left to the chairman (Mr. J. A. Nash) and Mr. W. H. Brown. "The conditions at the camp sites near the ocean beach are not adequate," said Mr. W. J. Guinan, an officer of the Health Department. "I am quoting the regulations." ' Mr. Brown : I think there are very few camps in the North Island which comply with the regulations. Mr. Guinan said that Dr. T. C. Lonie, the medical officer of health in Palmerston North, had told him that the conditions of the privies would have to be improved. Mr. Brown: Knowing the finances of the board we cannot comply with the regulations. If we close the No. 1 camp it won't stop the campers. Conditions will become worse. Mr. Dewe stated that the position was serious, and went on to say that he favoured a meeting with Dr. Lonie. "If the leaseholders.are asked to spend a lot of money to provide facilities for campers and picnickefs they will be up in arms," said Mr. Brown. It was decide/ to request Dr. Lonie to meet the board at its next meeting.
