PROVINCIAL MARCHING IN LEVIN

CHAMPIONSH1P ARRAN GEMENTS WELL ADVANCED

Initial afrangerhents have been made "for the holding of the Wellington provincial marching championships in Levin on Saturday, March . - 22, and the necessafy schedules and entry forms have been sent.to all teams in the provihce. It is pleasing to the Horowhenua ASsociation and citizens generally that the New Zealand Marching and Recreational Association has seen flt to allocate the holding of theSe chartipionships to the district association, and it is cenfldent of making this one of the biggest days in the district's history. Ir is expected that every team in the province will be taking part, and, along wion their coaches and kindred association officials, at least 400 visitors will be in Levin for the day. An attractive prize list has been drawn up and the team winning the open championship march will hold for twelve months a challenge cup donated by the N. Z. Belting Co., Ltd., Weraroa. The winning team also receives gold meaals, while the second' ' team .is awarded silver medals. The Horowhenua team gaining most points in this competition will hold for twelve months the Beatty • Rose Bowl, donated by Mr. and Mrs. R. Beatty, Levin, as well as gold and silver medals for flrst and second respectively. The oest costume awards in both cases will be siiver brooches and the team winning the aggregate will also be given silver brooches. The champion leader will win outright a cup donated by Messrs. A. W. Allen, Ltd., while the best leader amohg district teams wil'l also win outright Jie Murphy Motors' Cup, donated by them for the occasion* These trophies will be competed for during the afternoon. At night, cdmmencing at 7 p.m., a special cup, to be won outright by the team performihg the best drill display, the duration of same not to be more than six minutes and confined to a space of 30 square yards, will be competed for. The humber of movements performed will be taken into consideration in compiling the points for this display. This will take place right in front of the stand, and arrangements are being ma.de for special floodlighthig of the 30 sqiiare yard atea, for the occasion, thus assuring patrons of being able to see every movement made by the teams. * One of the largest items"" of the day will be the catering and general Welfare of the visitors, ahd with this end in view a meeting of parenta of local teams was held in che bandroom last; Thursday, when m enthusiastic parerits' committee of over thirty ladies was set up. Mrs. C. Nichol is president, Mrs. Perigo secretary, and Mrs. Patterson parents' representative on '.he association. The committee was uneoncerned with the large taSk the association has' asked it ro undertake, and made the preMminary arrangements there ahd then.
