RETURNED MEN GATHER

SHANNON R.S.A. MEETING The February meeting of the Shannon branch of the Returned Services' Association was held in Laurvig's Hall on Saturday evening. Mr. S. W. Barber presided and others present were Messrs. J. H. Sinclair (acting-secretary) , R. Hook, R. M. Lange, J. A. Reid, R. D. O'Donnel, C. Guerin, E. Veale, N. Retter, J. M. Kenny, E. E. Allen, O. H. Tippler and E. Morris. Apologies for ahsence were received from Messrs. J. Ritchie, J. Jones, R. L. Quinlan, S. J. Spencer, E. J. Gun - ning, V. J. Bateman and T. S. Downes. On the motion of Mr. R. Hook, Mr. K. J. Mitchell was accepted as a member. It was reported that the roll membership stood to date at 233, being made up of 188 Shannon and 45 Tokomaru members. Financial membershio for both the Shannon and Tokomaru districts stood at 217, of which 143 are seeond war members. The secretarv's action in paying the outstanding accounts in connection with the reccnt welcome honie was approved by the meeting. A circular letter was received from N.Z.R.S.A. in connection with the annual general meeting of the Dominion council, which commences on June 1-7, and asked that all remits be in the hands of the general secretary on or before March 16. ,It was noted that the date of the next general meeting was set down for Saturday, March 8 which was the date of the local sports club's annual meeting. On the motion of Mr. R. Hook, i'c was decided that the next meeting of the branch should be held on Saturday, March I. It was also decided that the remits should come up at that meeting. Reference was made by Mr. S. W. Barber to the presence of noxious weeds on the New Zealand Railways and Horowhenua County Councii's property, and following discussion it was moved that the secretary be nsked to write to those concerned pointing out the fact. In response to a circular, it -was decided that 15 dozen roses be ordered for Rose Day, 1947. At the completion of business the ; members were the guests of the ' ladies of the Women's Section at ■;upper.
