Talks expected to have a significaht bearing on the future of the waterf'ront industry, were opened today hetween Cahinet Ministers and the natiohal executive of the Waterside Wdrkers' Union. They will be continued tomorrow and niay lead to a new understanding for the future control of ohe waterfroht. At the invitation of the Minister of Labour, Mr. McLagan, the executive of the union at present meeting in Wellington, visited Parliament buildings this afternoon to confer with him and with the Minister of Eehabilitation, Mr Skinner, who deputised for the Minister of Industries ,and_ Commerce, Mr. Sullivah, who had hben detained at Gisborne by bad iiying weather. The discussions hetweeh the union executive and the 'Ministers will he cohtinued tomorrow.
