«eo — GREYMOUTH, Fcb. 11. The Paparoa (Joal Gompanv lias offered lo Ihe Government its colliery near Blackball, the largest private niine in the Grey district. Having decided on this eourse vvlien the Governtuent first announeed Ihe nationalisation of the iiicluHtrv, the Minister, Mr. McLagan, ou a reeeut visit inspected the niine and other assets which include a coal bearing area of 2000 acres. Negotiations are now proceeding regarding the price. The mine lias been 41 years producing, the output being from 150 to 200 tons daily. The produce is semianthracite noted for its good coke making quality suitable for smelting. About 60 inen are employed. The eapital outlay on the development has ex'ceeded £300,000. Acquisition would give the State control of all the Grey district collieries except the smaller cooperative mines.
