DIVORCES ON THE WANE
For the first time in six years the figuretf for divorce in Vietoria were on the wane. Victori*n decrees increased steadily throughout the war years from 817 in 1940 to 1727 in 1945. But last year the total was only 1622. Of the petitions granted in Melbourne last year, 40 of the marriages dissolved had lasted 30 years or more, the number of children involved in the 1622 brokeri homes was 1720. Sydney's figures for 1946 were well up on 1945. Last year 5848 men and women moved to end or repair a marriage. >In 1945 the total was 5443. Both in Victoria and New South Wales more women than men provided cause for divorce in 1946.
