SPORTING CLUBS ACTIVE
The various sporting ' "clubs were very active over the weekend, wnen ideal weather conditiohs attracted large gatherings out of doors. The tennis club's activities were connned to club play and some very' interested matches were played, ooth on Saturday and Sunday. Cricket fans saw' the local team score their first win of the season on the local domain 011 Saturday, when they defeated College B team. There was much activity on the bowting green on Sunday when a local tournament was "held. Rinks were present from Palmerston North, Levin and Fbxton. On Saturday afternoon Messrs. R. Hook, E. Thorne, C. M. Cronquest, H. Norris, T. Bell, R. Bibby, I. Peni and N. Batt represented the local club at a tournament in Foxton. In a competition for the skip's trophy, R. Bibby (Shannon ) defeated Rev. J. H. Datson (Foxton) and m the competition for the leads trophy Pedersen and Manuel (Foxton) and I. Peni (Shannon) played off, Manuel being the winner. The Wanganui races also proved a popular pastime for local enthusiasts and a well filled. bus left the town. Shannon was also well represented at the band display at Levin on Sunday afternoon. The beaches in the vicinity still continue to attract' locals, who enjoy relaxing by the sea.
