AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. Tlie first direct service to run bet woen Xew Zealand ports and the East African eoast, will be opened by the British Inriia Steam Navigation Company's ateamer Palikonda of 7434 tons gross, which will arrive at Auckland 011 Thursday from Basra via Bombay, Cochin aud Australia. The Palikonda, which is bringing oue of the first postwar shipments of dates from Basra, will load for East African potts at Auckland and Weliington during the discharge of hcr invarri cargo. I f suf ficient cargo is available it is proposed to send the stoamer to Mauritius, Lourenco Marques, Beira, Mazambique, Dar-cs-Salaam, Zanzibar and Mombasa. Bhe will also take a cargo to be transhipped in Australia to Bombay and Ivaracki.
