Personal ' Mr. and Mrs. R. McKerizie, of Mercer, are visiting a number of their old friends in Shannon. Miss A. Russell, formerly on the teaching staff of the local school, has received the appointment of infant mistress at the Poroutawhao school. Miss' Annette Mitchell has returned to Hamilton to resume her teaching duties there, after spending a holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. K. Mitchell, "Drimintoran," East Road. Others who have been the -guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell are Miss D. Hughes, of Waverley, Mr. D. Mearns, of Auckland, and Mr. J. G. Sinclair, of Heretaunga. State Houses The material for the foundations of the new State' house units on the corner of Ballance and Margaret Streets has arrived on ihe site. It is expected that an early start will be made with the eonstruction of the new units. Euchre Winners There was the usual attendance at the weekly euchre tournament conducted by the local branch of the Labour Party in Laurvig's Hall last Friday evening. Prize winners were Mr. R. Andrew and Mrs. W. Radford. Winners of the previous week's tournament were Mr. Andrew and Mrs. R. Roberts. Show Successes Following in the wake of his successes in the Horowhenua show last week, Mr. G. W. Munford, v,f PreLoria Road, has obtainect further successes with his Southdown sheep at the Feilding show. Mr. Munford secured one first place, three seconds and one v.h.c., and the championship for a ewe, 33 months and over. Mr. R. Wilton, of Poplar Road, Opiki, gained first a,nd fourth prizes at the Horowhenua show with his porker pigs in the Young Farmers' Club fiass.
