POSITION ON WATERFRONT

Reeeived Thursday, 10.50 p.m. SYDXEY, Feb. 6. Watersiders in nearly every Australian port offered and were aeeepted today for day shifts only. They are determined to enforee their ban on night shift work. With .1000 men still suspended in Sydney, inter-State and overseas ships were 1600 men short of requlrements. Thus night calls were not made and there were no further suspensions. Port officials estimate- that of 6200 men registered as watersiders in Sydney, about 4500 are activ'e ^ including 1000 suspended till tomorrow. As day shift requirements are partieularly heavy and all labour offering is likely to be absorbed by these calls, the night" shift position is unlikely to arise for some davs.
