FILM PHOTOGRAPHER CRITICAL

By Telegraph—

, VV ILJU.Li.LAN \J X WIN j 1 CU. u. Some criticism of the iVew ZeahuiclI er's apathy towards the publicity oi ihejr country in the United States, \yas , voieed by Mr. Ernest H. Scott, head of Scott Radio, Chicago, in a.n interview. During the five months he has been in New Zealand on his present visit, he has been touri ng the South Islannd shooting about 7000 feet of colour film (in the use of which he has had about i twelve years' experience) and prepar- • ing a guidebook. It was his intention to complete his tour of New Zealand i and record everything he savv in colo.n film and have prints of the completed i film, with sound track, distributed tu schools and colleges in America. He also intended to have a guidebook pu:> ! lished. He novv states that he will drop i the whole project. He has met with i so little interest in his scheme on the part of New Zealanders, espccially the Governmcnt, that he eonsiders it not worth the trouble and expense. When he had some 4000 feet of his South Is land film processed in Australia, Mr. Scott scrcened it at his ovvn expense iu Nelson along with another colour film of Anzacs in Chicago where he organised and financed a hospitality centre for Anzacs during the war. After the ' screening he received a lettcr from Mr. ■ R. M. Stewart, secretary of the Motion Picture Distributors' Association, war- ' ning hitfi that all films shown publiclv ■ in New Zealand must be accompanied by a censor's certificate. The film of ■ the Anzacs in Chicago had been shown ■ throughout New Zealand and to uiost of Cabinet by Mr, Scott early in 1945 - without a censor's certificate and with l out a protest. After some discussion • on the matter IMr. Scott is novv permit ted to give a private screening in Wel ' lington.
