ATHLETICS AND CYCLING
EVENING SPORTS IN OTAKI Owing to the fact that Otaki's leading cyclists were attending the sports at Karori on Wednesday night, the weekly sports meeting on the Otaki Domain was robb.ed of a good deal of its usual interest, but, nevertheless, much enjoyment was derived by those present. The children had a splendid outing and enjoyed themselves to the full. Their racing was keen and good finishes resulted. The results of the main. events were: — Half-mile cycle.— Wilton (35 ydsj 1, Brooks (45 yds) 2, A. Brown (scr.) 3. Also started: Julius (65 yds) and Collis (75 yds) . The two limit boys made the pace, with Brown well in the rear and riding well. The handicap, however proved too great for him and he failed to get within four lengths of the leader, who won by two lengths from Brooks. Open 100 yards. — R. Hill 1, Mudge 2, Hohipuha 3. There were eleven starters. A first start was a false one, Hohipuha, Cook and Robinson breaking the tape in that order. Senior 100 yards. — Gordon 1, Sadler 2, Matthews 3. Only starters. Won on the tape. Three-lap. cycle. — Wilton (35 yds) 1, A. Brown (scr) 2, J. Brown (85 yds) 3. Brooks, Collis and Julius also started. After a lap and a-half had been traversed the field was fairly well bunched, but in the race f6r home Wilton, riding well, won comfortably, while there was a length between second and third. .
