LABOUR PARTY HOLDS BIG VICTORY DANCE
i Attractively decorated with coloured lights and streamers, the Regent Ballroom, Levin, was the scene on Wednesday night of a idance to celebrate the Labour Party's success at the recent general elections and the commencement of its twelfth consecutive ;year in office. Guests of honour for the occasion was the party's candidate for Otaki in the recent election, Mr. J. Thorn. A telegram was received from the Prime Minister, Mr. P. Fraser,'who sent greetings and best wishes for the success of the evening, but regretted that pressure of official ■ duties prevented his " attendance. The Minister-., .of Works,- Mr. R. .Semple, and tne Mayor of Levin, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, also telegraphed regrets. Mr. D. Capstick, official Labour candidate for Rangitikei at the past elections, was present with Mrs. Capstick. An attractive cake, baked by :Mrs. G. Shanks and iced by Mrs. G. Hillman, took pride of place in the hall. During the evening the candles were lit by Mr. Thorn and extinguished with due ceremony by Mrs. Thorn, who also supervised the cutting and distribution. The dance, which was well patronised, was ably supervised by the M.C., Mr. C. Mudgway. An attractive supper was p.rovided and the manner in which the function was conducted reflected great credit on the committee, which comprised: Mesdames G. Winter, F. Nicol, E. Mills, G. Hudson, G. Shanks, K. Hough, ,T. A. Burling, J. Price, and Messrs. L Parsons, J. Green," W. Shanks and E. M. Mclntyre.
