CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 4. A strong rebuttal of allcgation published in New Zealand neAvspaper:that clmrches in thd Chatham Islands were desolate and deserted, that tlichurch evaded its respondliilities to t'li islanders and that the Chatham 1'slanders were drunken and depraved. was voiced today by Rev. J. J. FlcAvellen, NeAv Brigliton, just returned after a stay in the islands from December 9 to January 27, during Avhich tiine he covered 200 miles on horseback. Rev. Rlewellen said the strength of the Ajiglican Church in th; - group Avas 112 adults and 124 childrei and services Avere well attended, tlv people shoAving by tiieir devotion, faitli ful ministrv in the past.
