SCREW TAKEN FROM LUNG
AUCKLAND, Feb. 4. | The 44-year-old John Turner, of Christchurch, the second New Zealand , boy to liave a screw removed from his | lung at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, liy Dr. Chevalier L. Jackson, arrived at Auckland by Pan-Ameri- ! can clipper this evening. He was ac- 1 companied by his fatlier, Mr. N. D. P. I Turner, and they were met at Whenua- 1 pai aerodrome by Mrs. Turner who had flown from Christchurch. Perhaps a little pale of countenance, probably due to the strain of the long journev, but otherwise looking none the worse for his experience, John could be seen waving vigorously through the window to his mother as the giant plane taxied to a standstill. Leaving Whenuapai by Pan-American clipper on .Tamiary 2 to undergo an operation for the removal of a three-quar-ter incli screw whic.fi had been in his left lung for two or three years, John, accompanied by his fatlier, arrived at Philadelphia four days later. An am- \ bulance was waiting at the airnort to j take the boy to tlie famous ' Temple Hospital wliere Graham Someville, of Auckland, had suecessfully undergone a similar operstion about eight months before. To allow him ti ihe to reeover from the fatigue; of the long journey, John was kept in: bed uhtil January 14 before Dr. Jackson s'et about removing the screw with a bronclioscope.
