COMING ATHLETIC EVENTS
WELLINGTON, Feb. 4. There was the possibility. of' the American athletic ' to'uring team competingin tlie New .Zealand championships at Eden Park, Auckland, on February 28 and March 1, said Mr. J. W. Holley, acting hon. secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Associ-j ation at a meeting tonight. Their ap- , pearance would depend upon transport arrangements for the athlete's returnl to Amer'ica and their condition at the end of their New Zealand tonr. i The New Zealand champion half" ( miler, D. M. Harris, will race in Auckland on February 15. He is at present resting and will not race after Febru- • ary 15 until he competes in the New; Zealand championships, said Mr Holley. j J. Fulton, the American half miler, is in Taupo resting at the fishing lodge of the American Minister. ' ; Transport difficulties had prevented the arrival of the Australian sprinter, J. Treloar, who had been expected on Monday. He should arrive later in the week to compete in Dunedin. The management of .tlie N.Z.A.A.A. discussed the question of handicap , events in whicli the American athlotes had appeared on the New Zealand. tour. ; It was agreed that some centres had j been over generous with local perform- ! ers in handicapping. They had quite \ unconsciously handicapped tlie visitors so that they would havc had to substantially beat New Zealand records in order to win events. It was decided to write to the centres setting out reasonable handicaps wliich» would give the visitors a fairer chance of winning events.
