CIVIC THEATRE
OUTSTANDING DOUBLE FEATUKE All America acclaimed the novel, "Mr. Winkle GOes to War," by Theodore Pratt and put it into the best-seller class. Now, starring Edward G. Robinson, Columbia is bringing its screen adaptation of this famous book to the Civic Theatre on Thursday and Friday as one attraction on an excellent double feature programme, and from preview reports, the film vernon is even more heart-warming and exciting than the printed page. Although the characterisation of Winkle, a quiet, shy, little bank clerk is a far cry from his gangster roles, Edward G. Robihson is hailed for giving the most lovable, the most human and sympathetic role of his brilliant career. French murder story in which a murederer builds himself an alibi with the aid of an innocent girl is the basis of the second attraction, "Alibi." The story has been filmed before, with Eric von Stroheim in the role of Professor Winkler, now cleverly played by Raymond Lovell. There- is a convincing atmosphere of gay pre-war Paris, with its glittering night club life, and the picture will make capital entertainment for the majority of cinegoers.
