' ' " 1 1 ' 111 Received Tuesday, 7 p.m. CANBFRRA, Feb. 3. Despite statements to the contrary, the Ministe,r of Immigration, . Mr. Calwell, persists in saying that the British Government is anxious to assist ; AustriFiia in obtaining immigrants. His 1 latest statement is that the British Under-Seeretary for the Colonies, Mr. Ivqi' Thomas/ has given him an assurance that Britain hopes to see a return to large-scale migration to Australia a* soon as possible. Mr. Thomas denies by saying that Great Britain was discouraging migrants. A leading article in the Telegraph ^ttacks Mr. Thomas 's denial as " ab surd hair-splitting" and says: "His evasive attqmpt to obscure the meaning of his statement does not help to clarify the facts which Australian, s must understand if they are to form a realistic policy.
