Received Tuesday, 11 a.m. SEATTLE, Feb. 3 The crippled freighter Alaska (4514 tons) docked at Cordova, Alaska, after an exciting eighteen ' hours during which the ship ran aground. Two holds were badly flooded and she narrowly avoided sinking in Cordova Harbour. Repairs will prcoably take four days, and the passengers may remain abroad because of insufficient aceommodation af Cordova. Ea-rlier it was reported that coastguards were trying to rescue 99 passengers and 100 members of the crew from the Alaska, which was reported to be in a sinking condition in an unsheltered harbour at Cordova. Rescue operations were expected to be hazardous because of a 40-mile an hour north^rly gale sweeping down on Cordova channel. The Alaska, with its hull gashed when it ran aground five miles south of Cordova early yesterday morning was towed off the rocks and reaehed Cordova harbour under its own power. Cantain Roy Selig, the Alaska's ma^ter, radioed the Seattle Coastguard headquarters that the pumns were keeoing the water at a six foot level in No. 2 hold, but were unable to cope with steadily rising water in -the forward hold.
