ANNBAI, TOBRNEY The tournament for the handsome trophy given by' the R.S.A., and which is competed for annually at Otaki, took place during the weekehd when a very pleasant day was spent.- The day was dull and late in the afternoon rain threatened, but, luckily; was so slight that play was not affected. Both'greens were in good order, and the management thrdughout the day- most satisfactorily' carried out. Among those who took a prominent part were General R. Young, president of thevO.taki branch, M.r., H. B. Edhouse - (vice-president) , Mr. H. Jepson f (secretary) and Messrs. C. Grey and Frank Rule, who kept the scpre boards up to date and helped otherwise, whiie the" ladies who supervised the morning and afternoon arrangements did good work. The trophy, in -the form of a shell mounted on a Maori carved pedestal, has been competed fov since 1939, when it was won by Martinborough. Other wins were. — 1940, Island Bay;, 1941, Plimmerton; 1942 and 1943, no competi - tion; 1944, . Island Bay; 1945, Porirua Hospital; 1946, Newtown and 1947, Takaro. On Suna.iy rinks were present from Takaro, Karori, Martinborough, Newtown, Terrace End, Khandallah, Nae Nae, Disabled Soldiers, Paekakariki, Levin, Otaki, Seatoun, Porirua, Petone, Woburn, ' Plimmerton, Lyall Bay and Hutt. The play-off took place on the Railway green when Childs. Green, Ridley and Hearsey, of Takaro Olub, c'efeated Curtain, G. Hatci:, A. Bell and W. Wilson (Petone Central) oy six points to five in a flve-head game. General Young thariked both the Otaki and Railway Clubs for allowing their greens to he'used. Mr. Faulkner, of the Lyall Bay Club, expressed appreciation on behalf of visitors for the flne day'.: enjoyment, and for the hospitality extended to them. He spoke highly of the organisation of the tournament which, he said. ^-ntailed s good deal of work, and extended special thanks to General Young and the tournament secretary (Mr. Jepson) for their fine work. After cheers had been given General Young, on behalf of th' tournament committee, expressed his thanks1 for remarks nassed. Otaki Club's Tourney A bowling tournament of a ileasant nature was held on th Otaki Club's green on Saturday when twelve rinks participatcd Enjoyable games resulted, the winnmg rinfc being Horn, McGilligan Cahill and Grey (s) , who won ali four games! Walsh, Robertson and Eaton each won three; Rolfe. Venr (Khandallah), Baker and Hurrel wo each; Southgate, Simcox and Barron one each: Merwood nil. Otaki Railway Club Play ing on tne Ouam Railway Bowling Club's green for the junior '•rngles championship, Morgan bea*' Hart 16 — 14 after an interesting contest, while in the senior single.' championship Symonds 'beat Webster 17 — 15. This was a keenlycontested game, and in the balance till the final head. The game wa115 all on the 19th head. •
