GUN BATTLE BETWEEN MAN AND POLICE

Received Sunday, 7 p.m. BRISBANE, Feb. 2. 1 A gun battle commenced in a buSy street in Warwick when a man wiio had been under treatment for a mental condition, fired several shots at a civilian car and then at the police. Constahle A W. J. Letheren, driver of the police car, had his right knee shattered and the car narrowly esCaped a crash hefore it was hro'ught to a standstill. Tfie man, who for some time had been shiping at passing vehicles, fired four shots at the other constahle as he ran for assistance. Searcb parties were organised and ihe man was coriiered in the bush two miles froftx town. The man fired at Constahle Kaim who took cover and returned the fire. After further exchanges the man was hit in the shotilder by a .22 calihre bullet and latef overpoWered. His wound is not serious.
