JEWISH AGENCY'S APPEAL
EVACUATION OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN Received Monday, 10.30 a.m. JERUSALEM, Feb. 2. Mrs. Golda Meyerson, head of the Jewish Agency's political department, has appealed to the British Government to reconsider its deeision to evacuate British women and children from Palestine, as the Jewish community would be happy to make itself responsible for any British women and children placed in its care. Mrs. Meyerson added that the Jewish Agency has asked the Palestine Government not to put into operation at this moment any large-scale military scheme. The agency anticipated that the threatened imposition of martial law would aft'ect mainly Tel Aviv, Ramatgan and Petachtikvah. Mrs. Meyerson reiterated that the agency and Palestine Jewry desired an end to terrorism, but they
refused to appeal to Palestine Jews to become informers. A Haganah ■ spokesman said today that Haganah could Stamp out the terrorist groups if the Government would not interfere. He added: "Our people won't move uniess they are sure there will be no interference. Haganah's battle plans are ready, but Haganah won't co-operate with the Palestine Government while it, follows a policy of martial law. Even threats of military action would interfere with any plans we have drafted to deal with dissidents." Asher Levitsky, Gruner's solicitor, acting on a cable from Gruner's sister, Mrs. Helen Friedman, of Pennsylvania, saw the Chief Rabbi, asking him to requesl Grunef to sign an appeal to the Privy Couneil. Gruner's exeeution will probably be at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. It is officially announced that judges have been instructed not to make any more court appearances in Tel Aviv. The courts will be transfetred to security areas.
