"UNDER THE TABLE" FARM DEAL

WHANGAREI, Feb. 3. For Et breach of the Land Saies Act Fredevick James Kjoller, retired farmer of Whangarei, was fined £225. The case was heard a fortnight ago when evidence showed that Kjoller sold a farm at Broadwood to Gordon Mervyn Jones for £3300, the amount granted to Johes by the Rehabilitation Department, and the price apnroved by the Land Saies -Court. Kjoller wanted £3500, and made an arrangement with Jones whereby he was to make up the difference bv exchanging his car for Jones' car,. which was valued at £500 more than his own, and also accepting two £50 cheques from Jones. The magistrate, in giving judgment, said the act was clear, plain arid drastic, and the court had no option but to imoos'e a fine equiValent to the excess amount feceiVed. Ih this case the amouht 'was £200. A nehaltv was also provided for a biT-ac'h of the act.
