YOUTH WHO WORRIED OVER EXAMINATION
CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 31. The death of a student, aged 10 years, Ng Wai Gai, was investigated when an inquest was held before the Coroner (Mr. Raymond Perner). Sergeant E. C. T. Broadley conducted the ease for the poliee. Dr. W. H. Brockett said he had examined the body of Ng Wai Gai at 452 Hill's Road at 2.30 a.m. on January 4, 1947. Death was eaused by hanging. Ng Wui Hong, father of deceased. said Ng Wai Gai had always kept good health. He had been a pupil at the Papanui Technical College where he had been talcing the engineering course. He had been studying very hard to pass the University entrance examination. He had never given any indication of an intention to take his own life. On the evening of January 3 he , had been helping witness in the garden. He had gone inside and it had been thought that he had been making tea but later he had been found hanging from a rafter at the rear of the house. To the Coroner, witness said his son ;s only fear was that he would not pass the entrance examination. Actually he had passed the examination. He had studied extremely hard and had eateu . and slept with a book in his hand. -"This is a very sad affrair, " the , Coroner said. "There seems no substantial reason for the commiting, by this lad, of this act. It is not_possible to see behind his mind but it seems there was some eoncern regarding the results of the examination and this may have preyed unduly upon his stu- ' dent mind. On the evidence the only verdict I can return is that death was eaused by suicide by llangiug.,,
