LOWER COURT REVENUE

LEVIN STATISTICS FOR 1946The revenue at the Levin Magistrate's Court for the year ended December 31,. 1946, amounted . to £673 2s 6d. This represents a decrease of £186 10s 6d over last year's total of £859 12s. A total of 196 eriminal cases were dealt with during 1946, as compared with 211 in 1945. Defended (fivil cases heard totalled 16 as against seven last year. Civil cases, entered amounted to 108 eompared with 81 in 1945. In the Children's Court, 56 cases were dealt with, a considerable reduction in last year's disturbing total of 139. In many instances, however, children who appeared before the magistrate had heen charged with committing seyeral offenees so that it would not be entirely correct to say that offenees by juveniles were on the decrease. Miscellaneous cases dealt with iii court Qr chamber amounted to 46 as against 44 in 1945. There were 37 licensing applications as agaipst 33 last year.
