AUCKLAND, Jan. 29. The defcat of the national champions was a feature of the finals of the Auckland tennis championshixis. Miss M. Beverley, holder of the New Zealand singles title, was defeated' in straight sets 6—3, 6—4 by Miss E. G. Attwood, of Auckland, wkom Miss Beverley defeated in the recent national tournament. , Miss Beverley and Miss B. Botter, ! holders of tlie national title, were beqten in the women 's doubles by Mrs. R. W.' Smith and Miss L. Adams 3 — -6, 6 — 3, 6 — 3. A notable performance was scored in the men's singles by the 20-vear-old V Dunedin, intermediate^ J. E. Eobson;
who defeated E. D. B. Lusk 3 — '6, 6 — 2, I 6 — 3, 6 — 2. Robson played fine tennis | in scoring his first tournament singles 1 victory this year. . A. C.
