Rain would be welcomed by some of the trainers with horses engaged at the Wanganui Jockey Club's autumn meeting, which opens on Saturday, as the tracks have beeome very firm (state's the Chronicle). Watering has been tried on the course proper, which has dried up very quickly in spite of the rain earlier in the month. Training operations on Tuesday morning were carried out under ideal conditions, and on number one grass track ^he poles were 10ft. out. As horses were galloping well out in the track they covered more than the distance indicated by the pegs. Rebate, who is engaged in the Tayforth Handicap, was not on a timemaking mission and easily covered five furlongs in 68sec. The Defoe mare last raced at Marton, where she coutested the McManaway Memorial. She will be ridden by K. Chote. Five furlongs was also the task set for Surrendel", Q.uex and Restriction, and they registered the sarne time, 68sec., a good working gallop. Quex is in the highweight event and Surrendel" is the Broiefort — Ruling Lady three-vear-old gelding engaged in the Kai Iwi Maiden. Moreton Bay linished well clear of Sir Flight at the end of five furlongs which took theni 65sec, the first two in 24 2-5sec. Sir Flight is a three-year-old gelding by Sir Beau from Princess Lackham, and Moretou Bay is the four-year-old by Amaranthus from Etiquette. Both are in H. J. Benge's stable, but race in dift'erent ownerships. Brantford, a bay colt by Broiefort from My Ideal, slipped over three furlongs in 40 3-5sec, taking 13sec for the first furlong. He is owned by Mr. F. F. Newman, a steward of the Wanganui Jockey Club, and is to run in the Springvale Juvenile, in which K. Chote will have the mount. Lambro, with his trainer, Miss R. Jackson in the saddle, worked strongly over a couple of circuits. The Phaleron Bay gelding appears to be steadily miproving, and must be given a chauce in the Westmere Highweight, in which he shares topweight honours with Adrigoole. Little Robin finished well clear of Just Barney over five furlongs, which took him 65 l-5sec, and he was doing it nicely. Little Robin is in the Tayforth Handicap, and Just Barney is a Martarma — Rawene gelding, five years old, in J. Duggan's stable. Tide Area, an aged gelding by Tiderace from Pollv Peachufn, slipped over three furlongs in 3 7sec. He is trained at Wanganui by J. Green for Mr. D. J. Blair. Tcnacity held on well in a spin over three furlongs in compauy with All Bay, registering 39sec. Tenacity is a two-year-old colt" by Arvakur from Air Ilostess, and carries the colours of Mr. S. J. Sievers, a steward of the Wanganui Jockey Club, and Mr. A. Wright. Tenacity is trained by his owners at Wanganui, and in this gallop he was eoneeding his companion the best part of 401b. Though not out to make time, Currency Lass "ecorded 1.21 for six furlongs.
