WELLINGTON TEAM BEATS LOCAL ELEVEN
Spectators at the Weraroa cricket ground were treated to one of the best cricket matches seen in Levin this seagon, when a Levin eleven and the Wellington Nomads, played, a weekend match, which the latter won by 63 runs, The Wellington side included four former Wellington representative players, C. J; Oliver, who represented ' New Zealand 'at both cricket and football, Rose, J. Fortune and E. Dempster. Nomads batted first t and were finally dismissed when their score stood at 173, Oliver being topscorer with 46. A feature of the match was the bowling of De Castro, who bowled 19 overs (five maidens) and took four wickets for 37 runs, with an average of less than two runs per over. Levin, playing 12 men, put up a good stand, but in the face of the fast bowling of Rose runs were hard to get, and tney were all out for 110. Wallace, the main batsman, was run out at 29. Dempster was the most successful Wellington bowler, taking four wickets for 33 runs.
