MR. ALBERT JOHN SPICER
The death occurred at an early hour on Saturday morning of Mr. Albert John Spicer, of Arapaepae Road, a well-known member of the farming community of the Levin district. Mr. Spicer enjoyed normal health up to the time of his death; and his sudden passing came as a shock to his relatives and friends. The late Mr. Spicer was born and educated at Ohariu Valley, and on leaving school took up_ farming pursuits. He came to Levin in 1918 and acquired a block of land on Tavistock Road, Ihakara, part of the Gorringe Estate, which he farmed for about 15 years. He then moved to a farm on the corner of Arapaepae and Roslyn Roads, where he resided up to the time of his death. Mr. Spicer was twice married, his first wife having predeceased him in 1925. In 1928 he married Miss Katherine Dittmer. Besides his widow he leaves a daughter (Dorothy) and son (Maurice), and of his first marriage two daughters, Mesdames R. W. Horne (Ihakara), and L. A. Humphrey (Leyin) and one son, Mr. L. A. Spicer (Levin). „ The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon and was largely attended. St. Mary's Anglican Church was filled for the serviee conducted by Rev. G. B. StoteBlandy, who later officiated at the graveside. The pall-bearers at the church were Messrs. H. Dittmer (Bunnythorpe), W. Dittmer (Otaki) , M. Spicer, R. W. Horne, L. A. Spicer and L. A. Humphrey, and at the graveside \ Messrs. S. B. Mexted, W. E. Kilsby, L. Bry'ant (Johnsonville), E. Field, W. Marks and R. Butt. Floral tribiites were numeroits and bore testimony to the esteem in which the late Mr. Spicer was -held.
