Heavy Seas Pound Coast of Australia WARNING ISSUED TO SHIPS

Receivecl Thursday, 8.50 p.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 23.The cyclone moved south from Queensland to pound the New South Wales coast today. Big seas are already running over the breakwaters as far south as Coff 's harbour. Shipping has been warned. Nothing fnrther has been heard of the anxiliary sehooner Tagua en route from the Solomons to New Zealand which has not radioed since Tuesday after rcporting heavy seas. The eentre of the cyclone was reported this afternoon to have halted 50 miles off the coast and less than 150 miles from Brisbane. Heavy seas and gales today ilestroyed the power lines between Gladstone and the Clarence River but dne to the sparsely settled nature of the district little damage to property has yet been reported.
