It is understood, says the Hefald-Tribune 's Tokio coiTesIDOiident, that the reason why 3000 British troops will be witlidrawn from Japan is, among other things, reluctaiice to partieipate in any Strong sense in an oceupatiqn wherein they have little voicq. They have been conscious for a long time that the occupation is an ''American show." It is also pointed out that while New Zealand and Australia because of their geographieal posi-t-ion are deeply interesfcd in everything related to Japan 's future British interest is Iargely eonfined to tlie commercial aspeets of tliat. future, and instead of thousands of troops in Japan only a few diplomats and businessmen. are needed. . Lieut.-General H. O. II . Robertsoh, conmiander of the British Occupation Forces, has returned from an inspection of the area occupied by the New Zealanders. He said he was especiallv impressed by their education service of which nianv were takiiig advantage. Goneral Robertson praistul their efficient handling of the repatriation and anti-smuggling duties. He said their accommodation had been very ba'd but conditions were steadilv improving.
