A NARROW ESCAPE

MAN IN DIFFICULTIES On Friday morning Mr. J. Ratcliffffe, of Wellington, was fishing off the Rangiuru Beach with a set line, using a small canvas canoe to overhaul and run the line out. Unfortunately, the canoe capsized a distance from the shore — although the sea was not rough at the time. Mr. Ratcliffe's predicament was noticed by his son, who was attending the shore end of the line. He gave the alarm and Mr. A. Clouston, also of Wellington, went to his assistance in Mr. Staveley's canoe, and after much difficulty got Mr. Ratcliffe aboard this canoc and brought him to shore, where he received prompt attention on- the beach and tater by a doctor.
