FAULTY INSTRUMENTS BLAMED FOR AIR CRASH

Faulty instruments showing an in-.; eorrect height of 500 feet were hlamed at the inquest for the Constellation cvash at Shannon (Eire) on Deeember 27 when 13 were killed. The pilot Herbert Tanse.y and tlie co-pilot Cliffort Sparrow, who are both Americans, liotli testified to this. Tansey .said it xvas the first time he had ever heard of an 4 altimeter error of that type. (Two of the Constellation 's three altimeters t'ound in the wreckage still sliowed a height of more than 500 feet.)
