In the iirst competit.ive appoarance she finished third in the 50 metres freestyle'whicli rvas »won by the triple Australian champion Denise . Spencer, equalling the Queensland record time. Ngaire was billed to compete on the opening night in the 100 metres frecstyle but xvas allorved to withd raw when she explained that she xvas uot a ' freestyJe exponent. Instead she gave an impressive backstroke exhibilion. Ngaire today was the afternoon tea guest of the Ladies' Swimniing Assoeiation.
