MARKET REPORT
Messrs. Townsend and Paul, Ltd., fruit and produce merchants, Wellington, report that supplies of stone fruits continue to come to hand slowly, the quantities being far from adequate. Dessert plums and peaches in extremely short supply are readily placed at ceiling, while apricots, red and black currants, cherries and tomatoes have all been sought at improved rates. In spite of larger quantities of flowers being offered, values have, for " quality blooms, remained steady. All varieties of vegetables have also been sought, particularly greens. Cabbage, silverbeet and spinach have all been in extremely keen enquiry. Carrots, cauliflowers, swedes and parsnips have also been sought, while onions and potatoes have both been placed at ceiling. Smaller yardings of poultry have been offered, values for prime birds again remaining steady. Quotations are: Apricots, 27/-, 35/-; plums, dessert, ceiling; others, 7/-, 10/6; peaches, keen demand, ceiling -|-case; red currants, 1/3, 1/6; boysenberries, 1/8, 2/4;. tomatoes, 1/5, 2/4; strawberries, 2/-, 3/6 lb; cherries, 20/-, 35/-; black currants, Christchurch, 31/- box; gladioli, 1/-, 3/6; primroses, 6d, 1/-; carnations, 6d, 3/- dozen; poppies, 1/-, 2/6 gross; beetroot, 6/-, 14/-; cauliflowers, 14/6, 23/6; turnips, 8/-, 16/-; lettuce, 2/-, 10/-; marrows, 8/-, 15/-; rhubarb, 2/-, 8/-; spinach, 15/-, 25/- case; beans, French, 4d, 1/4; butter, l/-r, 1/8; broad, 2d, 5d lb; cabbage, carrots, kumeras, swedes, onions, parsnips, potatoes, pumpkin, silverbeet, all ceiling, very keen demand.
