Pcrsonal Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Winthrop are spending a' vacation in Otaki.. Mr. and Mrs. A. Bennett are on an extensive tour of the South Island. Mushrooms at 8/6 a Pound Otaki mushrooms were being sold yesterday in one or two Wellington fruiterers' shops. The price varied from 7/6 to 8/6 a pound. Wellington Races On Saturday a large number of "sports" from this district will attend the Wellington races. Keen interest is being taken in the running for the Wellington Cup, valued at 100 guineas, with a stake of £5000, the winner to receive £3250 and the cup, the second horse £1000, the third £500 and the fourth £250. The Telegraph Handicap, to be run the same day, is worth £2000, while the Desert Gold Stakes will be worth £1500. This race will be run in divisiops, if necessary, and will not be subject to ballot should the number of starters exceed the safety number.
